Dr. İsmail Fidan, Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr.Fidan grew up in Tokat, Turkey. He obtained his B.S. degree in 2004 from the Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon, with a thesis entitled “Industrial Enzymes” directed by Prof.Dr.Saadettin Güner. He worked on small heterocyclic molecules and their diastoreomeric studies and completed his M.Sc. in 2006 from Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, with a thesis entitled “Synthesis of New 4-Thiazolidinones Via One-Pot Reaction” under supervision of Prof. Dr. Şeniz Kaban. He specialized on stable organic radicals, spin carrying ligands such as phthalocyanines and porphyrins, organic electro-active materials in his doctorate. He completed his Ph.D. in 2017 from Gebze Technical University, Kocaeli, with a thesis entitled “Nitronyl Nitroxide Containing Radicals” directed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Catherine Hirel.  During his doctorate, he visited Université Claude Bernard Lyon1, Groupe de Cristallographie et Ingénierie Moléculaire, Laboratoire des Multimatériaux et Interfaces (LMI), Lyon, France, as researcher for Nitronyl Nitroxide Radicals and Their Metal Complexes project with Prof. Dr. Dominique Luneau and also visited University of Victoria, Chemistry Department, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, as researcher for a project “Organic Multifunctional Materials” with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natia L. Frank.   

He worked as project coordinator/synthesis specialist in RS Research, Teknopark, Bogazici University, Istanbul Turkey, a start-up company specialized on innovative drug delivery platforms for cancer treatments. Currently, he is leading a team developing processes for industrial production of hydroxychloroquine, within a joint-project by İstanbul Medipol University-Atabay Pharmaceutiacal Fine Chemical Inc. with coordination of Assoc.Prof.Dr.Mustafa Güzel.

In his spare time, Dr.Fidan enjoys tennis, playing bağlama, cooking and interested in aviation.
